There are over five hundred named varieties of Japanese maples. They come in an incredibly diverse selection of sizes, leaf shapes, colors and growth aspects. In addition, the spring, summer, and fall leaf colors often change vividly. There are varieties suitable for full sun to full shade. Japanese maples are outstanding as showpiece specimens in a landscape or container, in groupings of varieties with different forms and colors, as understory layers for tall trees and as structural anchors in perennial and shrub borders. We grow nearly one hundred selections which have proven hardy, vigorous, and of enduring interest in our Pacific Northwest garden. We highly recommend the book Japanese Maples by J. D. Vertrees and Peter Gregory ($49.00 postpaid) as a guide, and encourage you to contact us for more information on these essential landscape trees. |
